Arancini: The 1000-Year-Old Collab Birthed Italy’s Most Famous Street Food


Ever wonder what the first fusion recipe is? Well, UNESCO claims it’s Macanese cuisine’s fusion of Portuguese and Cantonese recipes… but I challenge that!! 1000 years ago, one of the first food collabs, or fusions between two culinary cultures occurred in Sicily with Arancini. In the 10th century, Arabic traders introduced rice, saffron, and advanced cooking techniques, which, when combined with the Italian culinary tradition, gave rise to Italy's most famous street food. This is Sicilian Arancini.
