how to make STEEL CUT OATMEAL while SOCIAL DISTANCING

Now that we are all social distancing, it’s time to learn how to make steel-cut oats for a hearty, healthy and comforting breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup, Organic Steel Cut Oats (or any oats you have, cooking times may vary)

  • 3 1/2 Cups, Cold Water

  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons of Unsalted Grass-Fed Butter (or whatever butter you have), split into 2 portions

  • 1/2 Fuji or Honeycrisp Apple, Diced

  • 1/4 Cup, Almonds, toasted and chopped

  • 1/2 Tablespoon of Cinnamon

  • 1-2 Tablespoons, Real Maple Syrup

  • Salt to Taste

Directions:

  1. Toast and dice the almonds.

  2. Rinse the steel cut oats under water to rinse off the excess starch.

  3. In a small saucepan on medium heat, add half the butter and the oats and toast for 1-2 minutes. Then add the water. Bring that to a boil and then drop it to a simmer. Season with salt and then cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally so nothing sticks, until the oatmeal is thick and creamy and the oats are cooked through. If it gets too thick, add a little water to adjust the consistency.

  4. Once you’ve reached your desired consistency, add half the chopped almonds, a few dashes of cinnamon, a little maple syrup and then mix it all together. Turn off the heat, add the remaining portion of butter, melt it into the oatmeal. Taste it and then add salt if needed. Ready to plate.

  5. In a bowl, add a spoonful or two of oatmeal, covered with the almonds, the apples, a touch more cinnamon on top and then finally a drizzle of maple syrup around the edges.
