Chickie & Pete's in Philadelphia serve this but theirs comes in a family sized salad bowl and they have the mussels drowning in the sauce & is served with artisan bread for mopping up the sauce, and no matter how much bread they give you it is never enough.

It has been close to two decades since I last had it at their place in Mayfair and it was served as an appetizer for less than $10, but with bread you want to eat with this will turn it into an entrée for two hungry adults, that pisses off the owners/staff that you're taking up a table & spending only $10 between the two of you, excluding your bar tab.

So, yes, good and delicious-looking recipe. But I have an alternate method I'd like you to consider. I steam the mussels, not in the sauce, but separately in another pan (using no liquid, just the mussels and any water they accumulated when washed). Lots of times, even though you may clean them, they still have some sand or bits of shell that falls out into the sauce.

So, steam, remove mussels (detach the half that isn't holding the meat if you want to serve them in a half shell), run the juice through a paper towel used as a filter, then add juice and mussels to the sauce.
